Who We Are
My name is Emily, and I had a small idea last year.
I was sitting in Walmart waiting for my mom to finish checking out and I was looking at other people’s carts, as you do. There were many families that were at the checkout lines who had their carts FULL. Not just of food and other items, but of plastic. It really got me thinking about how much single use plastic we, as Americans, use.
Now, I have been to Europe a few times and every time you go to the market you have to remember to bring your own bag or pay to have a plastic bag! Some, of you might think... WELL, EMILY, we have that in America too. The answer is yes we do! Aldi, Sam’s club, other small business, etc... are just a few examples. HOWEVER, I feel as though we need to go one step further and stop using single use plastic altogether. There are plenty of alternatives to using these single use plastics nowadays.
So, I devised a plan to make some reusable bags! With the help of my family, especially my mom (who is also a partner in my business and my biggest support), I created E. E. Taschen. It stands for Emily Elizabeth Bags (Taschen is German for Bags). I want to help save the planet one bag at a time, and hope that I can help others understand the importance of helping the environment.
Climate change is wreaking havoc on our planet and in the words of Greta Thunberg,
“We can’t save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed. EVERYTHING NEEDS TO CHANGE - and it has to start TODAY”.
We make a difference in the world and it doesn’t matter how big or small it is. All that matters is if we take action now. Even if that means I take action and only help a few people stop using single use plastic whilst shopping.
Thanks for all of your support!
